Overhead Cranes

Overhead cranes are generally used in the interior of a building. They run along 2 long travel rails with a single or double girder bridge spanning the distance between the rails. Overhead cranes are mounted above everything; usually on building supports.

This means that overhead cranes do not reduce the work space on the ground; unlike Jib cranes which need space for the base. Overhead cranes carry heavier loads than other types of cranes due to the ability to use 2 girders and structural support to mount the lifting apparatus.
